1) Draw a rectangle that will define the conditional proportions and boundaries of the chosen drawing.
2) From the middle of the rectangle, draw one vertical and one horizontal line equally dividing the shape.
3) Draw another horizontal line equally dividing the upper half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a horizontal line equally dividing the bottom half of the rectangle.
4) Draw a vertical line equally dividing the left half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a vertical line equally dividing the right half of the rectangle.

Step 1

Mark off the width and height of the picture. Draw two ovals for the head and body of the jumping horse. Add the proportions of the knight. Draw his helmet.

Step 2

Draw the shapes of the animal’s body and neck. Add the knight’s torso. Add one guideline for the tail of the horse, and another guideline for the spear.

Step 3

Use guidelines to define places for the knight’s legs, and helmet visor. Add guidelines for the horse’s legs and mouth.

Step 4

Sketch the legs, nose and ears of the horse. Add the shapes of the knight’s legs and helmet.

Step 5

Draw the saddle, harness, tail and mane of the horse. Detail the shapes of its ears and legs. Draw the armor of the knight.

Step 6

Detail the shapes of the armor and spear. Sketch the horsecloth and mane of the animal.

Step 7

Work on the figures, paying special attention to detail.

Step 8

Contour the knight on the horse, trying to vary the thickness and darkness of the line. Add more detail and add the ground. Erase all guidelines.
