1) Draw a rectangle that will define the conditional proportions and boundaries of the chosen drawing.
2) From the middle of the rectangle, draw one vertical and one horizontal line equally dividing the shape.
3) Draw another horizontal line equally dividing the upper half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a horizontal line equally dividing the bottom half of the rectangle.
4) Draw a vertical line equally dividing the left half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a vertical line equally dividing the right half of the rectangle.

Step 1

Mark off the width and height of the figure. Draw an oval for the head of the silverback gorilla. Draw lines, which will act as the center of the head and mark the shapes of the facial features.

Step 2

Add an oval for the body and smooth lines for the back and chest.

Step 3

Define the proportions of the facial features, arms and legs. Draw guidelines for the legs, arms and feet.

Step 4

Add the shapes of the legs.

Step 5

Draw the feet, arms, tail and face of the gorilla. Outline the ears. Define the shape of the face.

Step 6

Delineate toes, fingers (and thumbs), the nose and the jaw.

Step 7

Work on the whole figure, paying attention to details. Draw eyes.

Step 8

Contour the silverback gorilla, trying to vary the thickness and blackness of the line. Draw more details and grass and erase all guidelines.
