How to draw a steam train

Grid step

You can print out the base construction lines and start drawing on tracing paper or you can draw the grid layout yourself using the following steps… Show more

1) Draw a rectangle that will define the conditional proportions and boundaries of the chosen drawing.
2) From the middle of the rectangle, draw one vertical and one horizontal line equally dividing the shape.
3) Draw another horizontal line equally dividing the upper half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a horizontal line equally dividing the bottom half of the rectangle.
4) Draw a vertical line equally dividing the left half of the rectangle. Similarly, draw a vertical line equally dividing the right half of the rectangle.

Step 1

Mark off the width and height of the steam train. Draw an oval for a smoke box door on the right part of the sheet and a guideline for it. With a straight line, mark the direction of the train.

Step 2

Draw the roof and the body bottom. Add a guideline for a chimney.

Step 3

Outline the cabin, windows, and chimney. Mark with a line a cowcatcher size.

Step 4

Delineate ovals to show the shape of the chimney, and its hole. Add an oval for the rear part of the steam train body. Define the place for a kerf.

Step 5

Draw a footboard, a cabin base, window frames and a cylinder. Add a short line to define the cowcatcher proportions.

Step 6

Delineate the front windows and the cowcatcher shapes. Add more lines to indicate the roof and chimney. Mark with a line a row of wheels.

Step 7

Draw ovals for wheels and a headlight. Add some details and pipes.

Step 8

Outline the shapes of the wheels, the bottom of the steam train, and the headlight. Show the front parts and components.

Step 9

Contour the steam train. Add a flag and rails. Erase all the guidelines.
